For the launch of Harvest Wednesdays, we invite you to a Harvest Table Dinner in the Ballroom where cooks from Newcomer Kitchen will prepare a traditional Syrian meal incorporating the local produce from Chick-a-biddy farms CSA. Newcomer Kitchen is a project that invites newly-arrived Syrian refugee women to cook a weekly meal at the Depanneur on College Street West. The meals are then sold and the proceeds are shared amongst the women.
Early bird tickets are $50. After that, we'll be doing a second release of $60 tickets. Your Harvest Table Dinner ticket includes:
*This meal is halal*
- 4 courses of traditional Syrian cuisine, served family style in the Ballroom
- Wine to accompany the meal

- Inspiring remarks from the Depanneur’s founder Len Senator, the ladies who prepared your meal from Newcomer Kitchen, Sherry Patterson from Chick-a-biddy Farms and the Gladstone’s Chief Alchemist Christina Zeidler.

ABOUT NEWCOMER KITCHEN
In March of 2016, the Depanneur's owner Len Senater discovered many Syrian refugees were being housed temporarily in Toronto-area hotels without access to kitchens to cook for their families. So far removed from their homeland torn apart by civil war, he wanted to offer them his kitchen and a semblance of the community and identity they had in Syria. It has since turned into an entrepreneurial community project he hopes can be replicated in restaurants and kitchens across the world.
ABOUT HARVEST WEDNESDAYS
From August 24 to October 12, we invite you to connect with Ontario’s growing season through a Harvest Table Dinner in the Ballroom or a Sip and Savour in the Gallery (featuring tastings from 15+ local producers!)
Harvest Wednesdays is a local culinary series inspired by the Gladstone’s long-time investment in four ‘shares’ of a local Community Shared Agriculture Farm, Chick-a-biddy Acres Farms. By showcasing their local produce each week alongside guest chefs, community organizations and local producers, Harvest Wednesdays sparks conversations about Community Shared Agriculture, eating locally for global change, bridging the gap between urban and rural and of course, enjoying seasonal Ontario produce, picked from the land just the day before. Check out all the dates here!
WHAT IS A C.S.A?
Community Shared Agriculture allows city residents to have direct access to high quality, fresh produce grown locally by regional farmers. When you become a member of a CSA, you're purchasing a “share” of vegetables from a regional farmer. It is a relationship of shared bounty and shared risk.
