To honor and support the victims of the Orlando shooting and Orlando’s LGBT community at large, BoylesqueTO, Canada’s Premiere All-Male Burlesque Troupe, is remounting the Orlando-version of it’s hit show Oh Manada!, performed at the Orlando Fringe less than two weeks before the shooting. BoylesqueTO will be performing Oh Manada! exactly as it was performed at the Orlando Fringe: as though, you the Toronto audience, were present in Orlando. This version of the show has never been performed in Canada before. All proceeds from the show will go towards the Orlando Pulse Victims Fund.
The event will also feature special guest performers Regina of Light Fires, who also performed at this year’s Orlando Fringe, and Maximum Capacity, who performed at Pulse Nightclub earlier this year.
In late May 2016, BoylesqueTO spent two weeks at the Orlando Fringe festival performing our hit show Oh Manada! to largely LGBT audiences. Orlando, and the LGBT community in particular, welcomed us with incredible warmth. We were billeted at the Parliament Gardens—an LGBT resort—and spent several nights at the Parliament House, an LGBT nightclub that could have just as easily have been the target as Pulse. Over 30% of Orlando Fringe audiences in general are LGBT identified, and at our shows that number sometimes felt closer to 70 or 80%. For the final days of the festival, we stayed in downtown Orlando, minutes from Pulse. We made acquaintances in the LGBT community of Orlando. And lovers. And friends. When we heard the news about the shooting, we all cried not just for random victims, not just for the LGBT community at large, but for a specific group of people we met who were so loving and welcoming to all of us who either lost friends or lost a safe space in their community. Doing this show in Toronto, in the same version we performed in Orlando, as a fundraiser for the Pulse Victims Fund, is our small way of giving back to a community that gave so much to us.
Praise for Oh Manada!
“A show like this is everything I come to love about Fringe.” -- Watermark (Orlando)
“A whole lot of silliness with a lot of actual skin” -- Orlando Sentinel
"Vulgar in the best possible way!" ★★★★ -- Edmonton Journal
"Ridiculous fun stuffed into a sequinned jockstrap!" ★★★★ -- Edmonton Vue
In this cheeky (pun intended) revue, BoylesqueTO strips down all your favorite Canadian icons and slathers them in maple syrup for your viewing pleasure. Sexy delights include:
-The Royal Canadian Mount-Me Police
-A Lumberjack that will give you wood
-Universally sexy healthcare administered by a naughty nurse
-A hunky hockey team eager to score
Oh Manada! features a star-studded line-up of BoylesqueTO’s core members, including: the ruggedly handsome James and the Giant Pasty (Burlesque Hall of Fame 2014 and 2016), the alluringly sophisticated Dew Lily, the devilishly sexy El Toro, and the charmingly crass Wrong Note Rusty! Feminine wiles provided by stage kitten extraordinaire Dita Von Cleav. And no BoylesqueTO show would be complete without our charming yet filthy host: master of Canadian trivia, and secret Canadian himself, Alex Trebek (Johnnie Walker).
