Why are we raising money?
This fundraising gala is to raise funds to provide migrant sex workers in Toronto direct access to health services, legal support and safety. With your generous support, we will be able to continue our outreach work including:
- Disseminating health information to migrant sex workers, massage parlours and other workplaces
- Accompanying and referring workers to attend medical appointment
- Providing emergency support for crisis situations
- Offering counselling, translation, and emotional support when workers are arrested or faced with threats of deportation
- Operating a 24/7 Hotline, and
- Organizing training on legal rights
Butterfly does not currently receive any public funding and can only continue its work with your generous support.
How much are we raising?
We aim to raise at least $1,500 by selling 100 gala tickets! The other half of the ticket price goes toward the cost of a communal dinner at Noble Chinese Restaurant. This gala is an occasion for community members to meet our supporters, allies, and workers whom we serve. We are also raising funds to cover the cost for local migrant sex workers to attend this gala. If you are able to afford an extra ticket, please purchase one for a worker to come! Group tickets are also available at a discount for those who want to bring a crew of allies!
