Too Queer: A Bi Visibility Cabaret (Inaugural Event)

Videofag is collaborating with bisexual playwright and performer Katie Sly to launch Too Queer: A Bi Visibility Cabaret on June 6, 2014! Dedicated to making space for art by those who identify as bisexual and/or those whose work addresses bisexuality, the event will feature works from over 11 artists from across the city, including: Alana Boltwood Alexandra Tsirlin Catherine McCormack Cheryl Dobinson Franny McCabe-Bennett dance collective inAMORata (Simone Blais, Emily McCurdy, Nicole Karges, Lara Saliba, Eryka Gudino-Barthold, and Sophia Gudino) Kamila Rina Keira Grant Nina Bea Sly Maria theatre company Threw (Jackie Rowland) and a very special thank you to Nick Carney, for technical wizardry at this event! For the purposes of this cabaret, a bisexual person is defined as someone whose physical, romantic, or emotional attraction is to people of more than one sex/gender. Studies out of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show bisexual women in particular experience a significantly high prevalence of rape, sexual violence and stalking,” said Katie Sly. “The aim of the Bi Visibility Cabaret is to make bisexual people visible to one another, because being bisexual can often be very isolating, and to make ourselves visible to and heard by other communities. There have been too many moments I’ve been told I don’t exist.” Videofag is a space dedicated to the creation and exhibition of transgressive performance and new media. The space has played host to a wide range of emerging and established artists including Nina Arsenault, Sky Gilbert, Jennifer Chan, the Fustwurms, Dynasty Handbag, Bridget Moser, Alvis Parsley, Jeremy Bailey, and BAMBITCHELL, to name just a few. "Videofag is about making the impossible happen, often with very few resources in a very small space. It is a site for radical expression, urgent inquiry, and a confluence of many communities. Too Queer: A Bi Visibility Cabaret exemplifies our desire to support a wide range of political, sexual, and artistic expression.
